Multimodal transport from Europe to the East

Multimodal transport from Europe to the East

Multimodal transport optimizes the supply chain by integrating multiple transport modes

This solution is particularly beneficial when working with partners in Central Asia, Mongolia, and Azerbaijan. Combining road, rail, and maritime transport helps reduce logistics costs

Rail transport is one of the best solutions for eastbound shipments

  • Cost-effective transportation
  • High cargo capacity of railcars
  • Independent of road conditions and weather
  • Lower risk due to minimal human intervention
  • 24/7 rail infrastructure operation

For deliveries from the EU to the CIS, we often use the following scheme:

  • Road transport or short-sea shipping to transshipment terminals at the eastern border of Poland, Lithuania, or Latvia
  • Transshipment at the terminal onto broad-gauge railcars or containers, followed by rail transport to the destination station
  • At the final station, the consignee receives the cargo, completes import customs clearance, and arranges final delivery to their warehouse

It is crucial to select the appropriate railcar type based on the cargo specifications

  • Kaunas & Klaipėda (Lithuania)
  • Riga (Latvia)
  • Brest (Belarus)

Types of transshipment we handle

  • European-Gauge Railcar ↔ Broad-Gauge Railcar
  • Transshipment of palletized cargo, boxed goods, and oversized shipments

Customs clearance: procedures & recommendations

When exporting goods to third countries, it is essential to determine the customs clearance location and ensure all required documentation is in place. We recommend completing export clearance in the country of origin, preferably near the production facility, to streamline the process
At every border crossing, we cooperate with trusted customs agents who assist in document preparation and the selection of appropriate customs codes

What ensures additional peace of mind?

When choosing a logistics company, it is crucial to consider experience in transportation and transshipping similar types of cargo, familiarity with regulations and requirements for hazardous, phytosanitary, veterinary, oversized, or fragile goods

We cooperate with trusted terminals and ensure flawless transshipment. The expertise and qualifications of our partners allow us to minimize risks

Clever Logistics holds a Freight Forwarder's Liability Insurance, and Cargo Insurance is also available. The Institute Cargo Clause A offers the broadest coverage, including not only transport risks but also storage-related risks

Each client receives daily shipment tracking updates via email, allowing them to plan for unloading and customs clearance at the destination

We do not recommend that European shippers handle import clearance in the destination country. The consignee is typically better equipped to manage this process due to their local expertise in regulations and procedures

We will deliver your cargo safely, selecting the best of our comprehensive logistics solutions
